10 tips to have an amazing senior photos session

Hey, Seniors! Congratulations—you’ve made it to your senior year! This is such a pivotal time in your life. You’re saying goodbye to one chapter and stepping boldly into the next. Graduation is a milestone worth celebrating, and what better way to capture this moment than with a senior portrait session?

Your senior portraits should be more than just a picture for your grad cards; they should reflect who you are and serve as a lasting memory of your high school journey. But if the idea of getting in front of the camera makes you nervous, don't worry! Here are 10 essential tips to help you have an incredible senior photo session.

1. Create an Inspiration Board

Feeling overwhelmed about where to start? Begin by creating an inspiration board on Pinterest or your phone. Pin everything that speaks to you—location ideas, lighting styles, poses, outfit options, makeup, hair ideas, and more. This is a great way for us to visualize your style and what you want from your session. Remember, there are no rules; pin anything that inspires you, and don't forget to share it with me!

2. Choose a Location That Speaks to You

Location is key! Think about what vibe you want for your senior portraits. Do you prefer a rustic countryside look, urban streets with brick walls and unique alleyways, or wide-open spaces filled with trees and plants? Consider your outfits and any props you plan to bring. I also have a location guide to help you narrow down your choices, and I'm here to help you discover a unique spot that matches your vision.

3. Decide on the Best Time of Year

Choosing the right season for your portraits can make all the difference. Think about whether you want the vibrant colors of fall or the fresh blooms of spring. Also, consider your schedule—are you involved in sports or other activities that might affect timing? Deciding on a season that fits your style and availability will help set the tone for your photos.

4. Plan Your Outfits in Advance

When it comes to choosing outfits, think ahead! Select clothes that make you feel comfortable and confident. Mix it up with layers, patterns, and different textures to add variety to your looks. Think about your entire ensemble from head to toe, including accessories like jewelry, scarves, hats, and shoes. Don’t forget about undergarments—make sure they don’t show through or distract from your outfit. Stay true to your style and consider your chosen location to create a cohesive look.

5. Bring Props That Reflect Who You Are

Your senior photos should be a reflection of you! Think about bringing props that showcase your hobbies, interests, and personality. Whether it’s sports gear, musical instruments, books, or memorabilia, props can add a personal touch to your session. Consider items that have special meaning to you and will help tell your story.
