Great locations for portrait photo sessions
Over the next 5 weeks I’m going to be highlighting my top 10 favorite locations around the Elk Grove and Sacramento area that are perfect for portrait photography. These are great locations for Senior Photography, Family Photography, Couples Photography, and more. I will give a description of the location, information about parking or fees, and top key features of each. My first 2 locations are West 12 Ranch in Lodi, and Jack Hill Park in Elk Grove.
West 12 Ranch:
Lodi, California
WEST 12 INFORMATION
Description:
West 12 Ranch is a haven of rustic California beauty. From the lush green grass of the horse ranch to the scenic photo studio - West 12 Ranch captures the true elegance of the countryside in every aspect. The beautiful horses and panoramic landscape form the perfect backdrop for The Studio. The West 12 Ranch Studio welcomes graduating seniors, newlyweds, families and more for picture-perfect country photos. Located in Lodi, off West 12 Hwy. This is probably my favorite location to do photo sessions, especially for seniors. If you love the nature look with pastures, trees, props, barns, and a beautiful country scene then West 12 Ranch is a great location for your photo session.
Time:
The best time to take advantage of the beauty of the ranch is during that golden hour which is typically 1½ to 2 hours prior to sunset. However, earlier morning sessions right after sunrise are also very beautiful and work really nice for young children.
Parking:
They do have parking and only allow up to 3 photography groupings during 1 session time, so parking is generally not an issue.
Fee:
There is a fee to use the ranch. It is $60 for the weekend, however, I only charge $50.
Features:
1. Ton of spots all over the ranch to do posing
2. a prop barn full of props that we have full access to
3. horses that will come up and want to be in the photos
4. old trucks, tractors and trailers that can be used in the photos
5. places to change outfits
6. calm and serene atmosphere
Jack Hill Park:
Elk Grove, California
JACK HILL PARK INFORMATION
Description:
This neighborhood park is tucked down a quiet side street in a very nice neighborhood. It is 7.5 acres of beautiful, lush grounds that are part of a nature trail. There are groves of trees all over. The center of the park has a bathroom, parking lot and play structure. There is a footbridge not far from the play structure that leads to the other side of the trail. Depending on what time of year you visit there is amazing flowers and foliage that accentuate all portraits. Running through the nature area is a tiny little creek with ducks and geese swimming or bathing at any given time of day. There are so many great spots throughout the park that offers a great background for your photo sessions. It is perfect for all types of sessions, but definitely for family sessions.

Jack Hill Park’s real beauty comes to life during that golden hour which is typically 1½ to 2 hours prior to sunset.
Parking:
They do have parking lot and on a rare occasion it is full there is parking on the street along the park.
Fee:
There is no fee for the park

2. Small creek that is easily accessible
3. Walking paths and trails
4. Quiet off the path spots
5. Bathroom for changing clothes
6. Good for large family sessions
