WW: NEWBORN PORTRAITS FAQS PART 2

Answering the important questions about newborn photos

Newborn Portraits FAQs Part 2

Here is the 2nd part of my newborn FAQs. These are in my Newborn Portrait Guide I send to all my perspective newborn clients.

12. What should I bring to my session?

You will want to make sure you bring lots of diapers, wipes, blankets to keep baby warm during feedings, formula, pacifier, any outfits you would like for the baby to wear during the session, and any special prop you may want in the photos. Since newborn sessions are longer than most other sessions, I would recommend bringing snacks or lunch for yourself and any siblings who may be attending the session.  I also suggest bringing activities for siblings, so they have something to do while I am working with baby.  If you are planning on being in the photos or if siblings are going to be in the photos, make sure to bring outfits for you and the siblings. I encourage you to pack an extra outfit for siblings, since you never know what might happen.

13. What if my baby doesn’t sleep?

Many babies do not sleep thru their session. Some are wide awake the entire time!!  I can usually still achieve some amazing images, especially if they are wrapped! However, I do try my best to get baby to sleep so we can get those cute sleepy images.

14. What if my baby cries?

Babies are babies and they will cry! I do everything I can to soothe and comfort them and surround them with a comfortable environment. It is important to remain calm as babies can sense anxiety. I work around the baby and have tips and tricks to soothe baby.

15.What if we cannot get any great baby photos? Do I get a refund or a reshoot?

I have a very successful record for being able to achieve newborn images even with fussy babies. I will do everything I can to achieve newborn images and soothe your baby. However, in the event that baby is inconsolable, and we aren’t able to get any images, I will discuss options with you during the session.

16. My baby still has their umbilical cord on, is it ok to take photos?

Yes! Most babies that come still have their cord on, as it may take a full two weeks or longer for it to fall off. When babies are wrapped, I wrap with their diaper on and cover the cord so that it does not catch on the fabric. When they are naked, I gently cover the area to keep it protected. I am very cautious with newborn babies, and I am aware of the post-delivery care that is needed.

17. What happens after my session?

After your session we’ll discuss when you when you can expect your photographs to be available for viewing in your online gallery.  I will walk you through the process and answer any questions you might have.

18. What is the turn around on my images?

Images are generally ready to see within 1-2 weeks of your session. I do try to get sneak peeks to you within 2 days of your session. You will be able to view your images through an online gallery set up just for you! You will receive an email with a link and password.  You will be able to view your images and to order any prints, digitals, or other products, as well as order the images that come in the package you purchased.  You are also able to share the link and password so that family and friends can see the images and can order their own products right from the gallery.

19. How many images do you provide?

Newborn Sessions can be anywhere from 1-3 hours and the number of images captured depends on how well the newborn is doing during the session and how many poses we are able to get. A newborn session can have anywhere from 50-100 images captured. I will go thru your session images and eliminate any duplicates or blurry images as I edit through the images. You will then see the images on your online gallery and will be able to choose images for any package purchased or decide on what items you want to purchase.

20. Is there retouching?

YES! All images you see will see on your gallery will be edited, which includes removal of acne, blemishes, flaky skin, smoothing skin, and toning down redness.  If you do NOT want these edited out of your baby's session, be sure to inform me before leaving your session.  I offer black and white images and special coloring images. For more advanced edits such as head swaps, this will require an additional charge per image.

21. Do you offer Maternity Photo Shoots or Baby’s First Year plan?

I do offer simple maternity photo shoots.  It is typically a hour portrait session.  Unfortunately, I do not have the maternity gowns that you may see in some of those other maternity sessions.  I do offer a one year baby Milestone package that can be added onto your newborn session or purchased separately.

22. Do you practice newborn safety?

Always! I understand how to work with newborns, how to keep them from overheating, how to position their heads and arms to prevent asphyxiations and always keep them safe.  I wash all blankets, wraps and outfits after each session.  All props are wiped down and sanitized after each session
