How I Edit My Client Images
Editing Client Images in Lightroom
I wanted to show a behind the scenes screenshot video of how I go about editing my client photos. I use Lightroom almost exclusively but will go into Photoshop to do some major edits, especially cloning. I do want to say that my goal is to always get it right in camera so that when I do go to edit, it is not very time consuming and I can do some basic editing, while also having fun playing around with presets that add fun coloring and uniqueness to the images. By far my favorite style of images are the bright, light, and airy look of photos. I like my photos to be more on the warm side.
After importing my images into Lightroom I apply some basic editing. This includes adding some exposure, maybe increasing my shadows, adding a little bit of saturation and vibrancy to the colors and messing with the contrast. I will also play around with the tone of the image by usually warming it up a little. I have actually created my own preset that does a basic clean edit that applies all of these edits. I will apply the preset and the make some additional hand edits to the images as I see are necessary. I really enjoy using presets because they save a lot of time and are great starting points when it comes to editing.
After applying the basic edits to my images, I will play around and add fun presets to achieve my optimal style which is the light and airy look. I also have fun with specialty coloring of images. Every photographer develops their own style when it comes to editing their images. I used to think that all photos had to be a certain way and would try to copy other photographers. It has taken me years to realize how subjective photography can be. It is really important as a photographer, to find your own style and stay consistent in that style. When potential clients are looking at my portfolio they can tell if what they see matches the style they are hoping to get from their photos. All in all I really like the style I have adopted over the years. I continue to add little tweaks here and there, but overall I’m pretty happy with where I’m at when it comes to my editing skills.
