What exactly is a senior rep program? Traditionally, a senior rep program is one or two seniors or even a group of seniors that represent a certain photographer during their junior and senior year. They help to recruit their friends to book senior sessions through that specific photographer and in doing so, earn incentives and discounts on their senior portraits. This is a marketing strategy that senior portrait photographers will use in hopes that they will gain more “word of mouth” business by utilizing those selective students. Most photographers who offer a senior rep program will require their reps to enter into a contract with them that spells out what specifically they will be required to do and what the benefits will be. Not all senior rep programs are created equal and aren’t always successful. I created a video below, where I specify why I don’t use a senior rep program and my thoughts on the practice.
