Senior Portraits Session Tips in Elk Grove, CA.

4 tips on choosing senior portrait outfits

You have finally booked your senior portraits session and then you realize you must figure out what you are going to wear for the session.  This is by far one of the biggest challenges facing any senior when it comes to their outfits for their sessions.  After all senior portraits are a big deal and are memorializing your time as a senior.  You want to be trendy, but also make a statement about who you are and incorporate your style into the session.

There are a few things to think about as you begin the process of picking out your potential outfits for your session so that you walk away with some amazing set of images! Here are a few details to consider as you get started.

1. VARIETY

is everything! You donā€™t go to Disneyland and just ride the Matterhorn the whole day.  You want to go on lots of different rides, so you have an amazing and fun experience.  This applies to choosing your outfits. You want to make sure you have an assortment of styles and colors to give you a more dynamic set of images.  Make sure that your outfits arenā€™t all dresses, jeans, or shorts.  With styles think urban, chic, casual, sophisticated, etc.

2. COLORS MATTER!

Not every color looks good on everybody.  Do you have that particular color that when you wear it, you look washed out or drab? Have you ever figured out what colors look best on your skin tone? This can make or break the glow & color your skin gives off in your portraits.

3. KEEP TO YOUR STYLE!

Just because your best friend wore a really bold pattern and color for her portraits, and looked great, it doesnā€™t mean you should too.  If you normally wouldnā€™t wear those patterns or colors, then stay away! Stay true to what you would normally wear to best represent yourself.

4. STAY CLASSIC!

Remember that there is a season for everything, and that includes fashion.  What is in style now may not be in style later.  There are always fads in fashion and even if something is all the rage now, err on the side of classic sophistication for your session day. You donā€™t want to look at your senior portraits in 5 years and say, ā€œWhat the heck was I thinking?!?ā€
