Joyful Holiday Memories: The Amezcua Family's Christmas Mini Session

There’s something truly magical about capturing the essence of the holiday season through family portraits, and my Christmas mini session with the Amezcua family was no exception. Sherri, along with her daughter Danica and son Samuel, brought so much warmth and joy to our time together at Camden Lake Park in Elk Grove.
A Little Backstory
I’ve had the privilege of knowing the Amezcua family for quite a while as part of the Bradshaw Christian School community. Earlier this year, I had the honor of photographing Danica’s senior portraits, so when Sherri reached out for a Christmas session, I couldn’t wait to work with them again. Sherri’s vision for the session was clear: she wanted the photos to reflect the love and joy they share as a family. She requested a fun, interactive vibe with less emphasis on posed shots—and that’s exactly what we delivered!
The Perfect Setting
Camden Lake Park provided the ideal backdrop for this festive session. With its serene lake, beautiful trees, and soft golden sunlight filtering through the branches, it felt like the perfect canvas to capture holiday memories. Despite the cooler weather, the park exuded warmth, and the Amezcua family’s energy filled the space with laughter and cheer.
Capturing the Spirit of Christmas
Christmas music set the tone—a cheerful playlist that had us all smiling and tapping our feet. Danica and Samuel were naturals in front of the camera, bringing out the best in one another with their sibling banter and genuine connection. Sherri’s love for her kids was evident in every frame, and it was heartwarming to see their bond shine through.
Some of my favorite moments from the session included:
Interactive Fun: The family wanted to do reindeer antlers using sticks to recreate a previous photo. It was so fun! They also did some photos of them throwing up leaves and having a leaf fight!
Candid Connections: Sherri’s request for less posed photos allowed me to capture beautiful, natural moments that truly reflected their personalities.
