Dreamy Newborn Photo Session in Elk Grove
Baby Xander Antonio Huerta
Introduction
There’s something so magical about newborn sessions—the tiny details, the peaceful expressions, and the overwhelming love from new parents. Recently, I had the absolute joy of photographing sweet Baby Xander Antonio Huerta. Born on December 15th, 2024, at 4:23 AM, weighing 7 lbs 11 oz and measuring 20.5 inches, Xander was an absolute angel during his session. This was Mom and Dad’s first baby, and they came to the session with a clear vision for themes, colors, and poses. It’s always such an honor when parents trust me to bring their ideas to life and capture these fleeting early days.
Session Details & Setups
Each setup for Xander’s newborn photo session was carefully planned with meaningful colors and cozy vibes. Below are the seven dreamy setups we created, each designed to highlight Xander’s delicate features and fit the aesthetic his parents envisioned.
1. Olive-Green Elegance
For the first setup, Xander was wrapped in a stunning dark olive-green wrap and posed against a soft dark green fur. The rich, earthy tones created a timeless and serene atmosphere, perfect for highlighting his peaceful expression.
2. Christmas Magic
The second theme embraced the season with a cozy Christmas setup. Xander was swaddled in a hunter green wrap, nestled on plush white fur, and surrounded by festive Christmas ornaments. This setup felt warm, inviting, and perfectly fitting for a little winter baby.
3. Rustic Browns
Next, we moved to a rustic brown theme. Xander was wrapped in a soft brown wrap and posed in a dark brown basket against a marbled brown background. To add a touch of charm, we included a small teddy bear in some of the poses. The warmth of this setup gave it a classic and cozy feel.
4. Soft & Sleepy in Grey
For the fourth setup, Xander was dressed in a cozy grey sleepy outfit with a matching hat. He was posed on a beanbag in a variety of classic newborn poses, including side-lying, stomach poses, and the ever-popular hand-under-chin position. This setup also allowed us to capture close-up shots of his tiny feet, hands, ears, and nose—details that parents always treasure.
5. Teddy Bear Cuteness
One of the most endearing setups featured Xander in a light brown teddy bear outfit, complete with little bear ears. He was gently placed on a cream fur, resting on a curved wooden log bed. The soft textures and warm wood tones made this scene both rustic and heart-meltingly sweet.
6. Sage Green Serenity (Basket Pose)
For the sixth setup, Xander wore a sage green outfit with a matching hat. He was placed in an oval basket lined with sage green fluff and set atop brown stitched netting on a sage green marbled backdrop. The soft greens and neutral tones complemented his skin beautifully, creating a calm and serene look.
7. Sage Beanbag Magic
In the final setup, we continued the sage green theme with Xander posed on a beanbag. This allowed for more natural poses and additional close-up shots to capture every delicate detail.
Each of these setups was carefully styled to ensure every photo was both unique and cohesive, reflecting the care and thought put into the session by both the parents and myself.
Behind the Scenes
From the moment Xander arrived, he was an absolute dream to photograph. After a feeding with his mom, he settled into a peaceful sleep and stayed that way for nearly the entire session. There was a brief moment towards the end when he began to fuss, but with a little comforting and gentle reassurance, he quickly drifted back to sleep.
Alejandro and Angelica, Xander’s parents, were understandably a bit nervous before the session began. It’s completely natural for new parents to worry about whether their baby will stay settled during a photo session. However, as they watched Xander transition effortlessly from one setup to the next, their nerves eased. They even captured a few behind-the-scenes photos and videos on their phones, documenting their perspective of the session. It was such a joy to see them relax, enjoy the experience, and soak in these precious moments with their newborn son.
A Note for Expecting Parents
If you’re planning a newborn session, it’s important to remember that those first two weeks after birth are the ideal time for sleepy poses and smooth transitions between setups. Babies are typically more flexible, sleepier, and easier to pose during this window.
Another helpful tip is to feed your baby right before the session. A full tummy usually means a content, sleepy baby who’s ready to be gently posed and photographed.
Newborn sessions are not just about capturing beautiful photos—they’re about creating an experience where parents can relax, enjoy the process, and leave with timeless memories of their little one’s earliest days.
