A Special Family Tradition: The Lewis Family Photo Session

Family Photos | Jack Hill Park | Elk Grove, California

Every family photo session I do is special, but this one with the Lewis family holds an extra piece of my heart. Why? Because this is my baby brother, Tim, and his sweet little family!

Since 2018, it’s been a Thanksgiving tradition to photograph them. Back then, Bailey was just one year old. Now, we’ve got the spirited and mischievous Reagan in the mix, alongside their amazing mom, my sister-in-love Amelia. Watching their family grow has been such a joy, and getting to capture their milestones year after year is something I’ll always treasure.

A Drama-Free (Yes, Really!) Session

Let’s be real—family sessions with little ones are usually sprinkled with a bit of chaos. Someone’s fussy, an outfit isn’t quite right, or it feels like a marathon just to get everyone out the door. But this year? It was almost too good to be true!

Amelia and I started the week by shopping for outfits, settling on a palette of cream, hunter green, and jeans. It was classic, cozy, and perfect for fall. On the day of the session, everyone got ready in record time, the girls were in great spirits, and we made it to Jack Hill Park with plenty of daylight to spare.

Golden Hour, Sweet Smiles, and Full Hearts

Jack Hill Park is one of my favorite spots for sessions, and that golden hour light didn’t disappoint. From the very first shot, Bailey and Reagan were absolute pros. (Okay, maybe the pre-session smile practice helped!) Their sweet grins and silly giggles melted my heart, and you could feel the love between this little crew in every frame.

To make the session even more special, my daughter, Jacquelynn, joined us to help coax out some of those big smiles from her cousins. She had them cracking up with her antics, and it turned the whole session into one big family hangout.

After we wrapped up the photos, we let the girls run wild at the playground as a reward for being such troopers. Watching them climb and play together was the perfect end to a truly magical session.

Why This Session Meant So Much

Looking through the photos afterward, I couldn’t help but feel overwhelmed with gratitude. Not just because the pictures turned out beautifully (which they did!), but because this is more than just a job for me. It’s a chance to freeze these sweet moments in time for my family, to give them memories they’ll look back on for years to come.

For me, that’s what photography is all about—capturing love, laughter, and the unique connections that make every family special. And getting to do that for my baby brother? That’s a gift I’ll never take for granted.
